Ding-Dong, The Turner Witch is Dead
The Bears made the dreams of at least one little boy come true today by firing offensive coordinator Ron Turner.

(If Turner calls a fullback dive one more time I'm throwing this ball at his nuts.)
The Bears said Tuesday they have dismissed offensive coordinator Ron Turner, as well as offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton, tight ends coach Rob Boras, offensive assistant/assistant offensive line coach Luke Butkus and offensive assistant/assistant wide receivers coach Charles London.
If anyone is the least bit upset about this move and think the Bears are making a mistake, here are the Bears rankings in points and yards since Turner took over play calling duties in 2005.
| Year | Pts | Yards |
| 2005 | 26 | 29 |
| 2006 | 2 | 15 |
| 2007 | 18 | 27 |
| 2008 | 14 | 26 |
| 2009 | 19 | 23 |
Before anyone gets excited about the 2006 numbers, remember the Bears defense and Devin Hester contributed a good portion of those points during their Super Bowl run.
Defensivley, it was first reported that Rod Marinelli would take over defensive playcalling duties, but it now appears that their will be a search outside the organization. Either way, Lovie is going to hand over the clipboard.
I'm sure we'll hear some names over the next few weeks, but if the Bears want to make a splash that doesn't involve firing Lovie Smith and hiring a big name coach, the coordinators of three Super Bowl teams are both available - Charlie Weiss and Romeo Crennel. Crennel is less likely of an option, first it looks like the Chiefs are about to hire him and second, I believe the Pats were a 3-4 defense. Charlie Weiss may not be head coaching material, even at the college level, but much like Norv Turner, his work with quarterbacks and playcalling has always been admired.
UPDATE
Another name to throw into the ring is USC coordinator Jeremy Bates who worked with Cutler in 2008 as the Broncos quarterback coach. Cutler has nothing but good things to say.
"Jeremy is one of the best offensive minds in football,” Cutler said. “He was extremely innovative with our offense and took our playbook to the next level with some of the things he did, keeping defenses off balance and changing our look, but at the same time keeping it simple for us players. Some of the things he did were amazing to watch. He was always watching other teams and coming up with new ideas for our offense.
“He helped me grow into my third NFL season and helped me reach the Pro Bowl along with some of the other goals I set for myself. As a unit, our offense became one of the most productive in the league with Jeremy calling plays. He brought a lot of excitement to the meeting room and on the field. He made me want to come to work every day and get better. Jeremy will do great things in his new role, and USC couldn't have picked a better guy."
Ron Turner on the other hand made us want to fall on a rusted samurai sword and pluck our eyes out with a staple.
Bears going to cut Lovie's balls off so to make it uncomfortable for him next year.
The real problems still remain- Angelo and Phillips.

seemed that it wasn't very reassuring...

press conference was shown live on comcast chicago. all 60 ugly, infuriating, brain-cell-killing minutes. the link is almost too short and sweet in its' conclusions.
the distinct impression i have is that phillips, angelo, and lovie represent exhibits 1, 2, and 3 for the "peter principle". lovie knows zilch about offense, and should never have risen above defensive co-ordinator. angelo ought to be a wonderful assistant gm, being the bad cop who grinds down the price on a free agent or a 2nd round pick. phillips would be a fine gm signing the contracts of players brought to his table by a genuine football man (not angelo).
all three should have been shit-canned, and that's why none have: the bears would have been signing six paychecks to pay three active people and three fired but under contract people. and the money trumps all, in a business where phillips reports to chairman michael, and they all report to virgina. bleh.
so a couple of sergeants, and one lieutenant, get shot at sunrise. while the colonel and generals survive. 2010 will be no better, because NOTHING significant is changing. what a fucking crime. same coaches, by and large. no draft choices. no reason to sign long term free agents, as 2011 may not even be played.
i'll see you, good lord willing, in 2012. at least until the world ends on december 21.
which means, now that i consider it, the bears have been to their last super bowl. ever.
when do pitchers and catchers report?
and, any plans for a blackhawks blog?
I haven't followed them regularly for about 12 years, so no...
A Bulls one would come first if I didn't hate the franchise at the moment. They've managed to butcher rebuilding about 3 times already and I'm still bitter about how they broke up the championship squad.
If they sign Dwayne Wade that could all change though.

i was typing tongue-in-cheek, probably didn't come through the interweb very clearly...
and you are correct below, the whole thing was 1. embarrassing and then 2. infuriating.
Thought I would never type those words. But with upcoming baseball season and football after that I'm savoring every Hawks game.
Bulls will f'up free agency class this year.
Book it.

dear god that was infuriating..

That was basically the jist of the press conference.
Boers and Bernstein basically summed it up that way also.
Hub Arkush was on and said the McCaskey's are scared of upcoming labor strife and are holding status quo.
How Chicago.
Lucky if they win 6 games next year.
I haven't been exactly, ummm, quiet about my hatred... sorry, that's harsh. My dislike? My utter desire to vomit on his face? My extreme and odd fantasy to drill a hole in Rod Turner's brain so he finally figures out SOMETHING about pass patterns?
Anyway, any moron coulda posted that kinda stuff, right?
What I really liked about this is is that they smoked everyone. I'm sorry, I do feel bad for people losing their jobs, especially in this economy. But I'm pretty sure that there are some pro teams in Spain that could use an NFL quarterback coach.
The new global economy works both ways, after all, in my less than humble opinion.
So, sorry, Ron and sorry to all your sorry assed loser coach friends. Okay, I'm being harsh again. At the end of the day I think a lot of this is DeAngelo, but that's a whole different thread.
Having said that, I'm glad Turner is gone. It was really hard to watch his play calling. When was that play option again? Somebody remind me.

6 wins does seem about right barring a significant offseason.

you must be including pre-season victories. and 6 sure ain't good enough for the playoffs. and they'll finally do in january 2011 what they should have done yesterday: flush ALL the turds down the line.
