Next Year's Roster Failures
Happy New Year fellow sufferers!
I thought this would be a good time to start a fun thread. And, a New Year's List! How cool is that?
Who do you think will be DeAngelo's biggest screw up next year, roster wise. Let's look ahead, shall we?
In other words, we know he's gonna cut somebody loose. Is it gonna be Kreutz? Pina? A colada? What will be the worst move there? He's made so many it should be easy for us to predict the next one.
Who?
If you're really bold, and you know what's shakin' in the possible free agent market, who do you think he'll not sign. Please don't say Chester Taylor cuz we know he is not smart enough to pick him off the pile. Right?
Go!
Well I predict his failures will come primarily through the draft and the first day of Free Agency. You know when he signs someone on the first day that he's really fallen in love with that player no matter if he should have or not.
To answer the question I think we'll look back at this offseason and be most disappointed in losing a LB or Safety.
LB is the only position on the team that had the depth to replace 2 starters for the entire year and not be the Achilles heel of the defense.
Safety has a lot of bodies there and odds are they're not being used to their best potential. There's a logjam of decent SS on the team, and Angelo now has to pick who to keep and who to let go. I don't like his odds of getting that right.
As for specific players, Mark Anderson is a guy I think they have to keep unless they really believe in Gaines Adams. I do not yet believe he's going to be the answer at either LE or RE.
The rest of the team doesn't have enough talent to really justify cutting any starters. The bottom player at several positions needs to be turned over, but I think it would be foolish to turn loose any players still contributing at least an average performance, so I think despite the rumors of Kreutz and Clark being on the way out we need to keep them.
There are simply too many holes on this team to fill anything but the most glaring needs this offseason and the rest will have to wait until next year.
In other news, I'm working on a follow up to the draft review I did a while back in comparing another team. I'll post it in a few days. I'm also working here and there on a roster review.
My problem is that if they believe in Gaines Adams, that means I shouldn't.
That's pretty much how I view this team right now.
My biggest concern of the offseason is that the Bears look at some of the meager successes against the Vikings, and any that continue against the Lions will be problems that are solved going into next season.
Williams doesn't embarrass himself at LT, the job is his. Aromashodu has another big game, there's no need for a #1 WR. Steltz doesn't get hurt or hurt any teammates, and he's considered solid depth at S. You get the idea.
I agree with you in that I somehow believe that the FO will simply get it wrong again, because they have trained us to expect this. My roster review will include all of these deepest, darkest fears over the coming moves by Angelo.
i'm not sure how any moves (of any consequence) can be made.
they hold no significant draft choices.
they have nobody valuable enough to trade for a significant draft choice.
after extending cutler (already accomplished) and shit-canning lovie and all his minions (i'm expecting this monday or tuesday) there will be no "discretionary' income left over for free agent additions.
kinda looks like angelo has screwed this pooch for at least 2010.
only hope for getting out of the swamp is if the ownership has had enough of angelo, and simply starts over with an entirely new front office.
it's 8 frickin degrees below; i think my brain has frozen.
