What's Wrong With Jay Cutler? Open field, as we say in football speak

By Old and Blue - Posted on 04 December 2009

So as I checked in I was gonna pass on a great link, but user Jumbo beat me to it in a comment in my last post. I haven't had a chance to argue with Jumbo (or anyone else here) but I gotta say it will be hard to argue with a dude who linked up to something I was intending this original post to be about.

Anyway, here is the link:

I think this article does a much better job than I did describing what I've been describing about describing about how I am describing my frustrations about the bears, without really describing my real frustrations about them.

Let's hope that there is some kid named Rocky Wirtz around somewhere in the mccaskey (I will not honor this family with its Irish name until they honor us)  family, and let's hope Virginia is not like that Bitch on Heroes if and when if finally shows up. ...... AHHH then, the world says fuck you virginia m(oh dear TMZ has found us).

sorry about the spam, I think I deleted someone's legit comment as well.

Sorry about that.

Fire da bums already!

I've been pissed off all year at the comments people have made along these lines:
Orton leaves and becomes All-Pro
Benson gets away from the Bears and leads the league in rushing
The Bears kept the wrong quarterback

During the Cincinnati game I left and went to the grocery store. I was getting an enormous steak and talking to the butcher about how I had to leave the game because they were getting beat so bad. This guy next to me starts railing on how bad the Bears are, some of the comments above. I tell him that he doesn't know what he's talking about, that he has a chimp's understanding of football personnel and making obvious reactions. I had to beat him with the steak I bought before it was all over. Okay, there was no beating.

This article is for all the football morons who want to say Cutler sucks and ask why did the Bears trade everything to get him. It's nice to see someone validate Cutler's ability and put the lack of talent on the rest of the roster into perspective.

I've got more to say on this, will post again later. Also I'm working on a positional review of the team to post closer to the end of the season. Maybe I'll work on it some more when we're down by 20 to Green Bay next week

think I heard more than a few times that Benson claims to be a changed person since leaving Chicago and has completely changed his focus and commitment to football.

As for Cutler, stop throwing red zone INT's, the rest I can handle with him, since after the 10th bubble screen call you realize that the people he's playing with and making the calls should be coaching high school football.

The Good
Pass Defense: limited Rogers to 80 yards and no touchdowns; 2 sacks (Briggs, Harris) ; Forced fumble by Afalava and recovery by Manning
Red Zone Defense: Forced two field goals in two trips by GB

The Mediocre
Pass Offense: Cutler's completion percentage wasn't great at 10/17; YPA was not good at 5.7; another incomprehensible interception; TD drive was almost entirely passing yardage (85 passing yards on an 80 yard drive thanks to 5 yards rushing and 10 penalty yards); Aromashodu and Knox combine for 91 receiving yards

The Bad
Rush Offense
Forte under 3 YPC again; Cutler's 20 yard scramble on 3rd and 11 nullified by penalty
Rush Defense
72 YPC and 62 yard TD by Grant; WTF was Josh Bullocks doing in the game and why did he run in the exact opposite direction of the play? Absolutely terrible
Team Discipline
Bears have 6 penalties for 45 yards; false starts by Omiyale, Williams, Olsen; holding by Omiyale was a drive ender (loss of 31 - see Cutler run above); Personal Foul after TD that nearly resulted in GB score; for good measure we had a defensive offsides by Tommie Harris - only two more before the team reaches their game quota

Second half starting and Gould kicks OB. Terrific

early Christmas miracles...

Another Festivus Miracle!

Screen pass to Ryan Grant, 3 Bears in front of him, he runs by all of them for a gain of 7

Rodgers passes/fumbles to himself, passes/fumbles again, goes straight up in the air, Anthony Adams catches it, ruled an interception

Forte runs twice for a first down; Aromashodu catches his 5th pass for 9, Forte runs for first down; nice catch by Knox - throw is behind him, Knox adjusts, first down; another back shoulder throw this time to Aromashodu into the corner of the end zone for a TD - great hands by #19

BEARS LEAD!!!??!???

and then Cutler gives it back...

the horror....

Williams gets called for a personal foul after being beat by Matthews on a screen pass, leaving the Bears with 2nd and 20.

Pass over the middle looks to be caught by Olsen, but the ball comes loose as he's on the ground.

Play clock runs down to 7 seconds after Olsen was down on the field. Bears call timeout. Why not just challenge it to begin with?

Coming back to the action and Lovie challenges it. Wow

Even if he wins they have spent a timeout. Not smart

on the other hand, he sure looked like he was down before the ball came out

Forte can't make anybody miss
