Keys to a Week 2 Win for the Bears

By Rob G. - Posted on 20 September 2009

The Pittsburgh Steelers arrive into town and it makes me wonder if the organization has to ever worry about players defecting like the Cuban national baseball team. Do they arrive in a new city and wonder if Hines Ward will run for the embassy and hope he never has to return to Pittsburgh again?

The NFL.com preview had this interesting note on the game:

When Roethlisberger has a 100-plus passer rating, the Steelers are 29-2 (including the playoffs)

So when the QB plays a really good game, the Steelers win most of their games? I'm shocked to learn this.

So today I unveil my full-proof plan for the Bears to beat the Steelers.

Rob G's Defensive Keys to Game

Stop the Run

Stop the Pass

Force Turnovers

Don't Let Them Score

Rob G's Offensive Keys to the Game

Don't Turn the Ball Over

Score More Points than the Steelers Do

I'm 99% confident if the Bears enact that 6-point plan, they'll take this game.

My Confidence Pool Picks:

Viqueens over Detroit - 16

Tenn over Houston - 15

Washington over St. Louis - 14

Atlanta over Carolina - 13

Indy over Miami - 12

NE over NYJ - 11

Fudge Packers over Cincy - 10

Chiefs over Raiders - 9

Bills over Bucs - 8

49ers over Seahawks - 7

Jaguars over Cardinals - 6

Saints over Eagles - 5

Browns over Broncos - 4

Ravens over Chargers - 3

Giants over Cowboys - 2

Bears over Steelers - 1

To say the least, I'm not feeling too confident in my confidence pool this week.

Fantasy starters

Palmer - QB, TO and D. Henderson - WR, R. Rice and Portis - RB, Cooley - TE, C. Williams - Util, Gould - K, Bears - D (Special Teams Yards Count)

Bench: McNabb, Tomlinson, Boldin, D. Brown

And just for fun, put your final score predictions in the comments. I'm going Steelers 20-18. Ten days off to prepare, injuries and the Steelers D are going to be too much to overcome. Any hope for a win lies in the defense getting pressure and some turnovers on Big Ben. If they can bring back the 2006 offensive game plan that might help (defensive and special teams score most of the points).

For what it's worth, Jay Cutler's only appearance versus the Steelers and Mike Tomlin in 2007 resulted in a win and a pretty nice day for Cutler - 22/29 248 Yrds, 3 TD, 2 INT's and 41 yards on the ground.

Won't be in parachat, and may not even get to watch (all of) the game. Some Bears blogger I am.

But Bears win, 24-17.

your priorities are clearly messed up...

Fire da bums already!

Fantastic, Boldin is playing today and involved in the offense.

Neat.

Fire da bums already!

I too will not be around during the game. Very upsetting

Prediction:
Ditka 45, Steelers 3

Okay, Bears 16 Steelers 13

Look for the Steelers to copy the Packers in taking away Greg Olsen and Matt Forte. Olsen and Forte combined only had two catches (if memory is correct). Teams are not afraid of the Wide Receivers whatsoever and should be daring Cutler to beat them with an player at that position.

Hester had a good game, but GB was happy to single cover him all game long, which allowed him and Knox to both break free once. The rest of their catches were relatively short.

On defense, it will be really interesting to watch the defense with Hillenmeyer instead of Urlacher. He's a smart enough guy from what I hear about him, but he can't cover the deep middle like Urlacher.

Maybe this will help Lovie avoid calling that play, as Hillenmeyer in coverage is a scary thought. I know they don't play cover 2 all the time, but I really think the defense needs to consider changing the program.

Will the Bears sack Big Ben more than he gets away from a defender? He's elusive and, well, big enough to throw them off. They need to not only get to him, but bring him down to have a chance.

parachat is open...

Fire da bums already!

looked like he lead with his helmet to me...

and replay confirms.

Fire da bums already!

BTW, picking the Pats over the Jets was D.U.M. dumb. Today was their super bowl.

clearly it was...

Pats usually beatdown that kind of trash talk, but they're in a bit of a transitional stage.

The Titans game was probably the only real surprise to me, Texans looked so bad last week. I knew Titans wouldn't be as good as last year, but I figured they could take care of business at home versus Texans.
